چکیده

Introduction: The Orientation Distribution Function (ODF), the angular profile of the diffusion probability density function of water molecules, can be estimated from High Angular Resolution Diffusion Imaging (HARDI) data [2]. We present an extension of voxel-based morphometry to ODFs and apply it to brain asymmetry. While little is known about white matter connectivity asymmetry, several recent studies have examined left-right differences from DTI-derived measures in large human populations (N = 374; [1]). ODF-based morphometry allows us to extend the study of hemispheric asymmetry by examining differences in fiber characteristics across hemispheres rather than just differences in shapes and volumes. We estimate voxel-wise maps of asymmetries between the ODFs in the left and right hemispheres, using a generalized Hotelling’s T-squared test for ODFs. Voxel Based Morphometry (VBM) is a neuroimaging analysis technique to investigate regional differences in brain anatomy. VBM-type methods have made a significant contribution to the understanding of brain changes in several disorders and their relation to clinical measures. For example, VBM has been used to study a

P 24: Evaluation of the Voxel Based Morphometry in Quantitative Analysis of Brain MRI Images

Introduction: Voxel based morphometry is a type of statistical parametric mapping that can be used to investigate the effect of diseases such as epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease or other agent such as skills on brain structure (white matter, gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid). The aim of this study is evaluate the effectiveness of this method in detection of differen...

Bias in estimation of hippocampal atrophy using deformation-based morphometry arises from asymmetric global normalization: An illustration in ADNI 3 T MRI data

Measurement of brain change due to neurodegenerative disease and treatment is one of the fundamental tasks of neuroimaging. Deformation-based morphometry (DBM) has been long recognized as an effective and sensitive tool for estimating the change in the volume of brain regions over time. This paper demonstrates that a straightforward application of DBM to estimate the change in the volume of the...

Feasibility of the Application of Moment Of Inertia as a Feature to Study High-Frequency Bands in Brain Signals

Introduction Many features, emerging from mathematical techniques, have been used in the analysis of brain signals. In this study, the physical quantity of “moment of inertia” (MOI) was introduced as a feature to enhance high-frequency waves (HFWs) in electroencephalography (EEG). Materials and Methods In this research, the recorded EEGs from F3, F4, and Cz points in 20 males were used. A total...

Spherical wavelet transform for ODF sharpening

The choice of local HARDI reconstruction technique is crucial for discerning multiple fiber orientations, which is itself of substantial importance for tractography, and reliable and accurate assessment of white matter fiber geometry. Due to the complexity of the diffusion process and its milieu, distinct diffusion compartments can have different frequency signatures, making the HARDI signal sp...

[Altered anatomical asymmetry in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder: a pilot optimized voxel-based morphometric study].

OBJECTIVE Mounting evidence suggests that attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is related with abnormal anatomical asymmetry in some brain regions, such as basal ganglia. However, few cross-sectional studies have examined the abnormalities of anatomical asymmetry in whole brain of ADHD. Thus this cross-sectional study was to explore the anatomical asymmetry in whole brain of ADHD with...
